Take the Charge Full-court Basketball Drill

fullcourt-charge1 Take the Charge! Full-court

Purpose:
To condition players to sprint back on defense  and establish position to draw the offensive foul, and to teach offensive players to read and react to the defense.

This can also be used to improve decision making for offensive players driving to the basket so that they can avoid offensive fouls.

Organization:
Players form 3 lines on the baseline. The middle line has a ball.

fullcourt-charge2 Procedure:

1. Players move up the floor in unison, passing back and forth.  They should remain somewhat level with each other so that neither wing player gets out too far ahead.

2. The wing player who receives the ball at ½ court dribbles in for a layup.

3. The other wing player sprints to the block area and sets himself to draw the offensive foul outside of the lane .

Coaching Points:

1. The defense must SPRINT into position but must be completely stationary upon contact.

2. If the defense is too slow, the offense should make the layup. If the defense is set, the offense should pull up for a short 3-5 foot jump shot.
