Basketball passing drills – Celtic Drill

Basketball passing drills: Celtic full court drill

Celtic1 Purpose: The purpose of this  drill is to develop the primary fast break, as well as passing and ball handling skills in a full speed  transition situation.

Organization: The drill requires two players and 1 ball.  Player 1  begins under the basket with a ball.  Player 2 begin on the outlet area at the same basket.,

Procedure:

  • 1 begins by making an outlet pass to 2.
  • 2 dribbles full speed to the basket for a layup.  1 trails by sprinting straight up the middle of the floor.
  • After 2 shoots, he rebounds his own shot, takes 1 hard dribble up the middle and passes to 1 on the move for a layup.
  • 1 trails the play to the free throw line before turning to sprint back to the other end of the floor.

Coaching Points:

  • 1 should have his back facing the sideline for the outlet pass
  • 2 should try to get to the basket in 3 dribbles or less
  • On the return trip 2 should make 1 power dribble, exploding up the floor as if he were leading a fast break.
  • 1 should catch the ball on the move and 2 should pass to a spot ahead of 1 so 1 doesn’t have to stop and wait for the pass.
