Pogo Drill

Purpose:
To practice offensive rebounding followed with a quick put back

Organization: Players
form a line near the free throw line. The first player in line steps into the
lane with a ball.

Procedure:

1. 1 tosses the ball high off the glass.

2. 1 leaps for the
offensive rebound and grabs it with two hands at the height of his jump.

3. Immediately upon landing on the ground with the offensive
rebound, 1 jumps back up and scores the put back. 1 rebounds the put back and
passes to the next player in line as the drill continues.

Coaching Points:

Th player should jump immediately after landing
with the offensive rebound, like a Pogo Stick, for the put back.

2.The ball should be kept as high as possible
above the head for the rebound and put-back.

Variation: SecondEffort

1. To emphasize the importance of giving a second effort in
the basket area, each player follows his put back by rebounding, jumping high
and tapping the ball against the rim (players who can’t tap the ball on the rim
should try to tap the foam on the bottom of the backboard with the ball
instead).
