Motion Offense Core Movements Drill

This is a great shooting drill for getting repetitions at different motion offense movements

Purpose:
1. To gain practice repetitions at all perimeter actions in a motion offense 2. To get your post players shot repetitions. Organization: Players form 3 perimeter lines at either wing and at the top of the key. 1 post player stands on either block |

Procedure:
1. The 2 post players interchange 2. Each post player receives a pass in the low post from the wing on their side. 3. Each post player makes a scoring move (Drop step middle, drop step baseline, Sikma move, or whatever you teach) |
| 4. After passing to the post, both wing players walk towards the baseline to begin the perimeter motion.
5. The point guard picks a side with the dribble. 6. The ballside wing executes a V-cut and receives the pass on the wing. 7. After passing to the wing, the point guard screens away for the other wing, who comes off the wing for the jumper. This ends a sequence 8. Repeat the sequence several times so that your post players get several shot repetitions and your perimeter players get to practice several motion offense movements.

Coaching Points: 1. Players should ‘face and jab’ when they receive a pass on the perimeter. 2. One post player should set a screen for the other before flashing to the low post. Post players should not just interchange. 1 screens, the other influences and comes off of the screen. 3. The point guard should always choose a side of the floor with the dribble to improve his passing angle and to communicate what he is doing to the wing players. 4. Wings should ‘fake a pass to make a pass’ – fake high and pass off of the defender’s hip or fake low and pass off of the defender’s ear. 5. Players should rub shoulder’s when coming off of screens. 6. Change of speed, change of direction is important when coming off of screens. The floor should squeak on the cut. |
